CRU Wine Company

After receiving multiple recommendations from the few Fresnans we know in the city, Michael and I decided to spend our Sunday afternoon checking out CRU Wine Company in Madera, CA. Just a short 30 minute drive north on 99, we were hoping the winery would live up to its reputation... and believe me, it did!

Here is what the website says about the company:

"Founded in 2003, CRU Wine Company is a portfolio of handcrafted artisan style wines that embrace the incredible diversity of California's premium viticultural areas. The Cru, Carmichael, and Yosemite View brands each feature only the varietals that thrive in their respective regions; each label with its own unique character and focus."

We had decided on the beautiful drive to the winery that we would only purchase two bottles of wine, given that we are still on a strict budget. However, after a liberal wine tasting and some sweet talking from Maureen, the sommelier, we purchased six bottles and joined the Wine Club.

Oops.

The Pinot Noir is a special find. During a recent wine competition, a panel of judges, chaired by best selling wine writer Hugh Johnson, tasted more than 800 different wines. They were tasked with finding the best 12 wine buys in America... while blindfolded. The 2008 CRU Vineyard Montage Pinot Noir was selected as the Oustanding California Pinot Noir. We are excited to pair it with an excellent meal in the near future!

Now our wine cabinet is fully stocked for whatever special occasions lie ahead! I'll leave you with a few photos from our adventure...
