7.27.11 Montana

Ashleigh and I had an excellent opportunity to visit my parents up in Montana for a fly fishing trip. The trip was a great break from every day life, giving us a chance to be outside and just enjoy ourselves ... oh, and catch big fish :).

This is the view off the deck of the cabin we stayed in. Our cabin was nestled in the Bitteroot Valley off of the East Fork River.

Don't deny it, you're jealous.

Our amazing guide and his beautiful wife. (a.k.a. Nick and Janet)

Bird watching is of great entertainment in Montana. This is our attempt at capturing a bald eagle on camera. Sooo majestic!

Ashleigh in action!

Ashleigh bringing in a big one. Rather than lose the fish, we went with the fail safe "swing the fish to your husband" trick.

Sorry about the picture... the fish is much bigger than it looks. You will notice that in all the pictures we struggled to grab a good photo while juggling a camera over the water and getting the fish back in the water alive.

Effectively working a stretch of water.

On our last evening in Montana, we did quite well. Here are just a few of the fish we caught.

A rather happy father and son after completing two epic back to back battles.

A nice end to a long day at the Naughty Moose.

With our trip complete, Ashleigh and I had a few hours to kill before our plane arrived so we drove around for a bit. And wouldn't you believe it... we found a dinosaur.

AHHH!

Don't worry, Ashleigh tamed the mighty beast.

7.16.11 Josh and Lindsay Visit CA

Josh and Lindsay had been planning to visit California for sometime. They were going to be in San Francisco for a few days so we decided it would be best to go and bug them :).

Our weekend once again started off with me coming straight from an all night shift. But thanks to Ashleigh's sleeping aid I was able to make up on sleep on the drive out to San Fran.
We met up with the lovely couple in Santa Cruz for a fun day in the sun, to play on the beach, and on the boardwalk they have there.

This was outside the 85 year old wooden roller coaster. The coaster was a lot of fun, but much to our surprise, especially Ashleigh's, the coaster started in a very dark tunnel. "Ahhh, where's the light!!!!"

Beach Time.
The ladies showing us their best moves as they frolic on the sand.

Believe it or not the northern coast of California is freezing!!!!! Even in the peak of summer. I think Lindsay's ponytail helps to make the point.

Once we had our fill in the sun, and had a few sweet treats in our belly, we made our way back up to San Fran by way of the one, the scenic route. A very pretty drive.

Kite surfing is huge out here. So cool to watch, and hopefully I'll get to try it one day.

Once in San Francisco we meet up with Kenny and Amy where they saved us seats to the last Harry Potter IMAX 3D, on opening day!
A great end to a long day.

After a very lovely breakfast it was off to Napa Valley!

This place was gorgeous!

After touring the grounds of the castle we were off to our next vineyard, not to drink but to eat!

Mmmmmm good.

With a little food in our bellies it was off to the next winery.

This place was okay. The wine was so so, but the overall experienced was ruined by a group of foreigners standing next to us while tasting. They weren't loud, they weren't rude, lets just say one of them had a very upset stomach and had no remorse passing his pain to us. Hahahaha, but seriously, it reeked!

Our final tasting ended at Elizabeth Spencer, a very very small tasting room next to the large BV. Overall best tasting of the day. Away from the crowds, we sat out on the patio, talked, and laughed while enjoying a bottle of wine.

Napa Valley ...

... we shall meet again!

7.9.11 One Year Anniversary, Vegas Style!

For our one year anniversary Ashleigh and I decided to make a trip to Vegas. It's close, we found some good deals, and hey why not.

Our trip had a rather irritating start. I had just come off of the night shift, with the only sleep being what I got on the plane. We had planned on getting picked up by the shuttle as it was included in our package, but man was that a wrong move. It took 45 minutes of standing and waiting for the shuttle to get there. Here's a tip, if you go to Vegas, split a cab with someone. I think Ashleigh captured the feeling best.
But once we got in the shuttle it was all up hill! The driver was hilarious and hotel room at the Bellagio was pretty nice :). Our night began with an amazing dinner in the Eiffel Tower restaurant overlooking the strip and Bellagio fountain.

As luck would have it, Sam and Nick were there as well attending a friend's wedding. So they helped us thoroughly enjoy our anniversary weekend.
After dinner we split up. The girls went to go put on their Vegas evening attire while Nick and I went to the Luxor to watch Chris Angel. Overall the show was at best ok, entertaining but lacked magic. After the show, we met up with the girls and walked around the Cosmopolitan's fancy Chandelier bar then made our way to Treasure Island. There we found a tequila bar where we discovered Keno. Apparently as long as you have some money in the machine you get free drinks. This allowed us to break even ... except for Ashleigh who apparently has a little luck on her side ;).

Ashleigh in her Vegas dress. :)

After lady luck's fun at Treasure Island, we got a true Vegas experince. We made our way over to the Encore where Ashleigh's friend from work knows people. We got in the side entrance for free, and then lounged by the pool, danced, and sipped cocktails until our hearts content.

End day one!

Anniversary day: We started by having a very relaxing morning by the pool/ lakes of Bellagio.

After getting some sun we had lunch by the pool and spent the rest of the afternoon walking around the hotel and admiring the art around the Bellagio. It was simply amazing! And then it blows your mind to think that this is only one of the many hotels on the strip.

Thats right, the Bellagio has the worlds largest chocolate/white chocolate fondue fountain! mmmmmmmmmmmm!

After touring the hotel we made our way down to the Olives restaurant where we proceeded to have one of the best dinners together that we have ever had.

Not only was the food amazing, the service was great, with music in the background, and every 15-30 minutes we were gladly interrupted by the Bellagio water show with the best seats on the strip!
After dinner we walked back down to Treasure Island where we watched Circ de Soleil's Mystere.

The show was phenomenal! Tickets were expensive, but well worth the price. I highly recommend it if you are ever in Vegas.

After the show we discovered a rather interesting bar outside the theatre. An oxygen bar, seemed weird, but hey we were in Vegas.
What you don't see in the picture is that along with our 20 minute flavored oxygen session you also get a back rub and head message. Very relaxing. With the hand striking midnight our amazing fun filled anniversary day was complete, but the night was still young. The rest of our night was filled with different casinos, wondering the strip, and just exploring the nightlife that only Vegas has to offer. Rather than post numerous pictures I think the night is pretty well summed up into one:

This is Sam planking. Apparently planking is a new thing you do when you visit a place, you "plank." Lol

With the weekend at end it was time to go home.
